Is there research on EMDR?

The research on EMDR has been extensive, including 20 randomized controlled studies. Carlson et al (1998) conducted a Veterans Affairs study with 12 treatment sessions and reported a 78 percent remission in PTSD.  Wilson, Becker, and Tinker (1995 and 1997) reported a remission rate of 84 percent, with a 15-month follow-up. Rothbaum (1997) found a 90 percent PTSD remission rate for sexual assault victims after only 3 sessions per patient. A civilian study funded by Kaiser Permanente (1997, 2004) reported 100 percent of single-trauma victims and 77 percent of multiple-trauma victims no longer had PTSD after an average of six EMDR sessions.
