What to expect in the first session.

I do a comprehensive intake to determine along with you the nature of your difficulties, how long they have been affecting you, and what you have already tried. For the first session, it is good to bring the following:

  • a list of medications that have been tried (if any),

  • names of therapists and psychiatrists you have seen,

  • and copies of any psychological evaluations (copies that I can keep)

In this initial session, I ask lots of questions, unlike most follow-up sessions.  It is my hope that by the end of the first session we will know what you to want work on, whether I can help you, and what methods I recommend. If we believe that we are not a good fit, I will attempt to refer you to someone else who can help you.  I understand that it is difficult to be open and honest with someone whom you have never met previously, but without such authenticity we cannot expect psychotherapy to work.

Please bring the forms below with you to your first session.
